1)
Who is the "mother" in the Mother Lode Lodge?
In this instance, our "mother"
is not a person but a thing. "Mother lode" is a term associated with mining
gold. It has been used to describe large, productive veins of gold. In
California it is also used to describe a geographical area so-named because
of the gold found and mined during the goldrush that began in 1849.
Mariposa shares in that history and is the southernmost town of the geographical
area that is known as the Mother Lode region. |
